Summary
- There are no accounts, and YTPull doesn't ask for your name or email to use the downloader.
- Videos are not stored. Each file is prepared for your request and streamed straight to your browser.
- YTPull uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which features are used. It never receives the links you paste or the videos you download.
- YTPull does not show ads and does not sell personal information.
When you use the downloader
The link you paste is sent to YTPull's server, which uses it to look up the video on YouTube and, if you choose a quality, to fetch the video and audio from YouTube. To do this, YouTube receives requests from YTPull's server, not from your browser.
- Server logs. For each request the server records the type of operation, the YouTube video ID, how long it took, and whether it succeeded or which error occurred. These logs are used to keep the service working and to fix problems. They do not include your IP address, the full link you pasted, or download links.
- IP addresses. Your IP address is used to apply rate limits, so no single visitor can overload the service. For this it is kept only in the server's memory, alongside a request count, and is not written to logs or saved to disk. It is cleared when the server restarts or when old entries are cleaned up. Our hosting provider may also process IP addresses as part of running the website.
- Temporary files. When video and audio have to be combined, the server writes them to temporary files, which are deleted when the download finishes or fails.
Google Analytics
YTPull uses Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google, to understand how many people use the site and which features work well. The Google Analytics script loads on every page, and Google Analytics receives:
- Page views, along with information Google Analytics collects automatically, such as browser and device type, screen size, referring site, and approximate location derived from your IP address. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
- A few events about how the downloader is used: that a video lookup was submitted, succeeded or failed; the number of qualities found; the quality you selected; and whether a download started or failed, with a short error code such as “RATE_LIMITED”.
These events do not include the YouTube links you paste, video IDs, video titles, file names, or download links. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and the data is not used for advertising by YTPull.
Google processes this data under its own terms. You can read more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Cookies and local storage
- ytpull_dl_… (cookie, about 2 minutes): set when you start a download, so the page can tell you when your download has started or failed. It contains only “ok” or an error code. It is needed for the downloader to work and is not used for analytics.
- _ga and _ga_… (Google Analytics cookies, up to 2 years): set by Google Analytics when you visit. They let it tell new visits from repeat visits using a random identifier, not your name or email.
YTPull does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Limiting analytics
You can block or delete cookies for this site in your browser settings, use your browser's tracking protection, or install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The downloader keeps working if you do.
Children
YTPull is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children.
