What YTPull does
You paste a link to a YouTube video or Short, YTPull shows the video's title, channel, length and the qualities that are available, and you choose one to download. It runs in your browser on a computer, phone, or tablet. There's no account, app, or browser extension.
How it works
- Looking up the video. When you submit a link, YTPull's server reads the video's public details and the list of streams YouTube makes available for it.
- Listing qualities. Each resolution YouTube offers for that video becomes one choice, with an estimated file size when YouTube reports one.
- Preparing the file. For most qualities, and almost always for HD, YouTube stores the picture and the sound as separate streams. YTPull downloads both and combines them into a single file without re-encoding, so the quality is unchanged. That's why HD downloads take a moment to start.
- Sending it to you. The finished file is streamed to your browser as a normal download. Temporary files used while combining video and audio are deleted when the transfer ends. YTPull does not keep a copy.
Qualities and formats
YTPull lists the qualities YouTube provides for each video, commonly 360p, 480p, 720p and 1080p, and 1440p or 4K when the video was uploaded at that resolution. The options vary from video to video, so a particular quality is never guaranteed. Most files are MP4. Some very high qualities are only available as WebM, and the quality list shows the format before you download.
Limits
- Private, age-restricted and members-only videos, and live streams in progress, can't be downloaded.
- Files larger than 2 GB can't be downloaded.
- To keep the service available for everyone, each visitor can make a limited number of requests in a short period. If you reach the limit, wait a few minutes and try again.
